Siem Reap, Cambodia — Mr. Rick Shin, President of Kombat Global, met with H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, during an official meeting held on July 31, 2026, at Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort in Siem Reap.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Daisuke Teraguchi, Chief of International Operations of K-1, and Major General Khov Chhay, President of the Kun Khmer Federation.
The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between Cambodia’s tourism sector and international combat sports organizations. Participants explored opportunities to organize world-class events in Cambodia and develop them into attractive tourism experiences capable of bringing athletes, sports fans, media, and international visitors to the Kingdom.

The meeting also highlighted how cooperation among the Ministry of Tourism, K-1, the Kun Khmer Federation, Kombat Global, and other international partners could promote Kun Khmer, Cambodia’s tourism destinations, and the country’s cultural identity to global audiences.
“Sports and tourism are closely interconnected,” H.E. Huot Hak emphasized during the meeting.
The Minister explained that hosting international sporting events would attract athletes, fans, and visitors while creating valuable opportunities to showcase Cambodia’s tourism destinations, culture, civilization, and Kun Khmer—a treasured part of the country’s heritage and national identity.
H.E. Huot Hak welcomed and expressed his support for cooperation among K-1, the Kun Khmer Federation, Kombat Global, and relevant partners to bring international combat sports events to Cambodia. These initiatives will help strengthen sports tourism, expand Cambodia’s international tourism markets, and enhance the Kingdom’s global reputation.

“It was an honor to meet H.E. Huot Hak and discuss how combat sports can attract more international visitors to Cambodia,” said President Rick Shin. “With its rich history, unique culture, warm hospitality, and Kun Khmer, Cambodia has everything needed to become a leading global destination for combat sports and sports tourism.”
“Kun Khmer is the Father of Muay Thai and an important symbol of Cambodia’s history, strength, and cultural identity,” President Shin continued. “Through international events and long-term cooperation, we can introduce Kun Khmer and the Kingdom of Cambodia to millions of people around the world.”
President Shin also confirmed that, in cooperation with the Kun Khmer Federation, Kombat Global will organize a Kombat Championship every week in Phnom Penh beginning in September 2026.
The weekly championships represent a major long-term commitment by Kombat Global to Cambodia. They will create ongoing opportunities for Cambodian athletes while attracting international fighters, officials, media, sponsors, spectators, and visitors to the Kingdom.
The consistent schedule will also support hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, tourism operators, and other local businesses while helping establish Cambodia as a year-round destination for combat sports and sports tourism.
President Shin expressed his sincere appreciation to H.E. Huot Hak for his support and leadership in recognizing the important role sports tourism can play in promoting Cambodia’s tourism potential, cultural identity, and international profile.
He also thanked Major General Khov Chhay and the Kun Khmer Federation for their continued partnership and commitment to bringing Kun Khmer to the global stage, as well as Mr. Daisuke Teraguchi and K-1 for their confidence in Cambodia as a destination for international combat sports.

“Together with the Ministry of Tourism, the Kun Khmer Federation, K-1, and our international partners, Kombat Global looks forward to bringing Kun Khmer to the world and bringing the world to Cambodia,” President Shin said.
Through cooperation among the Royal Government of Cambodia, national sports organizations, the private sector, and international partners, Cambodia is positioned to become one of Asia’s leading sports tourism destinations and a globally recognized hub for international combat sports.
