A landmark milestone in the standardization and technical evolution of professional Taekwondo.
Singapore — January 25, 2026 — Kombat Taekwondo proudly announces the public release of the 10-part Kombat Poomsae Series, marking a historic achievement in the global development of professional Taekwondo. This groundbreaking curriculum establishes the first official standard of Kombat Poomsae for global instruction, certification, and future competition formats under the Kombat Taekwondo system.
Developed by Grandmaster Dario Bonfante and the Kombat Taekwondo Technical Team, the Kombat Poomsae Series represents a significant step toward unifying technical education within Kombat Taekwondo. The series combines practical fighting concepts, dynamic movement, and modern athletic presentation while honoring foundational Taekwondo values and heritage.
A New Era for Professional Taekwondo
Kombat Poomsae bridges the gap between form and fight, emphasizing real-world striking mechanics, mobility, angles, and tactical sequencing rarely seen in traditional forms. Unlike symbolic or aesthetic poomsae systems, Kombat Poomsae focuses on functional application and practical movement relevant to professional combat sports.
The idea to develop Kombat Poomsae originated from the need to provide new training modules for clubs, instructors, and practitioners. For decades, the majority of Taekwondo schools and practitioners have been limited to traditional poomsae and instructional methods, leaving a gap in combat-based technical education within Taekwondo. Kombat Poomsae addresses this gap by introducing a standardized curriculum designed for application, performance, and professional development.
For the first time, Taekwondo practitioners now have access to a structured poomsae system designed for modern combat application, rather than purely aesthetic performance. This shifts Taekwondo’s technical evolution closer to disciplines like MMA, Muay Thai, and boxing, where form reflects functional mechanics and fight-relevant movement.
The release of this new curriculum aligns with Kombat Taekwondo’s rapid global expansion and the establishment of a comprehensive ecosystem that includes the Kombat Grand Prix, national-level championships, technical courses, and instructor licensing programs across multiple continents.
Official Statements
Rick W. Shin, President of Kombat Taekwondo, emphasized the significance of this milestone:
“Kombat Taekwondo is proud to introduce our own structured combat-based Poomsae system. While traditional poomsae have served as a foundation for Taekwondo for decades, this development expands the art into a modern combat-based framework aligned with today’s global combat sports environment.”
Grandmaster Dario Bonfante, Chairman of the Kombat Taekwondo Instructor Program, noted:
“The Kombat Poomsae Series represents years of experience and dedication to technical innovation. Our goal was to create a curriculum that is both meaningful and functional for Kombat Taekwondo, while respecting the heritage of the art.”
